Create a 90-second (max) video that ANSWERS one or more of the following questions,
and INSPIRES others to take action:

What do you do to reduce your impact on the environment?
What does waste reduction mean to you? Why do you recycle and compost at school?
What do you think is the best way to save our natural resources?

Contest Rules & Guidelines

To Enter

Sponsored by Clark County Environmental Services. NO ENTRY FEE. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. The Contest begins on February 6, 2012 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT) and ends on March 2, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. PT (collectively, the “Contest Period”). Entrants may enter the Contest as described below.

Create a video (maximum 90 seconds in length) that describes (i) why reducing one’s impact on the earth is important and (ii) an action Clark County students can do in order to bring about positive change (collectively, a “Video Submission”). Videos can be submitted in other languages but needs to have English subtitles.

Access the SOS Contest website at www.saveorganicscraps.com and fill out the entry form with Entrant’s name, email address, phone number, school or community program, and postal address.

Upload & Submit First, get your video on the web by using a service such as YouTube or Vimeo. Then submit your video here.

Only one Video Submission and entry form (collectively, “Entry” or “Entries”) per person will be accepted.

Please note that entrants may create a Video Submission with a group or team. However, only one individual may submit each Entry and, if such Entry is selected to win a prize, Clark County will award the prize to the individual who submitted the winning Entry, as specified in the Notification of Winners Section below.

Eligibility

The SOS Video Contest (the “Contest”) is open to students in Clark County, in the state of Washington, who have an active e-mail account and Internet access and are enrolled in a high school in Clark County at the time of entering the contest. Entrants under the age of eighteen (18) must have permission from their parents or legal guardians to participate in the Contest. Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules & Regulations (“Official Rules”). VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

Prize Selection

Students from each school in Clark County will vote on entries from their school, and choose a school winner. Each school winner will be reviewed by a panel of Clark County staff and consultants who will be responsible for judging Entries, taking into account total number of votes per video. The decisions of the judges will be final. Judges will choose the overall winner plus one or more “judge’s choice” prizes. The Entries will be judged according to the following criteria, equally weighted (33.3% each):

Content
Video effectively addresses the importance of reducing one’s impact on the earth.

Production
Video recording is innovative, loud and clear enough to be heard, and the images, props, people, and/or text are used creatively and effectively.

Persuasiveness
Video is persuasive and informs students in Clark County to take positive action in order to reduce waste.

Entrant’s Video Submission must: (i) be original, of entrant's own creation, (ii) not violate the intellectual property or proprietary rights of other parties, and (iii) not be offensive, discriminatory or defamatory or contain vulgar or profane language, as determined by the judges.

Submission of a Video Submission constitutes entrant’s certification that the Video Submission is entrant’s own original work and entrant represents and warrants that the Video Submission does not and will not infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party, including, without limitation, any third party patents, copyrights or trademarks.

By submitting a Video Submission, entrant hereby grants Clark County and its successors and assigns a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable (through multiple tiers) and transferable license to use, copy, transmit or otherwise distribute, perform, modify, create derivative works based upon, incorporate into other works, publicly perform and display the Video Submission or any portion thereof, in or through any medium, whether now known or hereafter created. Nothing herein shall constitute an employment, joint venture, or partnership relationship between entrant and Clark County.

Prizes and Odds

The prizes to be awarded from the Contest are described below.

One (1) grand prize winner will receive a Kindle Fire. Up to ten (10) school prize winners (one from each Clark County high school) will receive 4 movie passes. Up to three (3) “judges’ choice” prize winners will each receive one (1) micro DV camcorder.

The odds of winning a prize depend on the total number of eligible Entries received. No cash or other substitution of prizes is permitted, except at the sole option of Clark County for a prize of equal or greater value. Clark County will not replace any lost or stolen prizes.

Winners are solely responsible for any and all federal, state, provincial and local taxes, if any, that apply to prizes. Approximate total value of all prizes to be awarded: USD $800.

Notification of Winners

Prizes winners will be announced on March 8, 2012, on Clark County’s SOS website at www.saveorganicscraps.com. Clark County will notify winners by e-mail or phone within five (5) business days of selection. If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, and/or fails to claim a prize, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from remaining valid, eligible entries timely submitted. In the event of a dispute regarding who submitted an Entry, the Entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail account specified in the Entry.

General Rules

By entering the Contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules. The Contest is offered by Clark County Environmental Services – SOS Program, 1300 Franklin Street, 1st Floor, Vancouver, WA 98660, which is not responsible for (a) late, lost, delayed, damaged, postage-due, incomplete, illegible, misdirected or undeliverable Entries, responses, or other correspondence, whether by e-mail or otherwise; (b) theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alterations of Entries; or (c) phone, electrical, network, computer, hardware, software program or transmission malfunctions, failures or difficulties.

You further agree to release, indemnify, defend and hold Clark County and its parent, trustees, affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, sponsors and agents, including advertising and promotion agencies, and assigns, and any other organizations related to the Contest, harmless, from any and all claims, injuries, damages, expenses or losses to person or property and/or liabilities of any nature that in any way arise from participation in this Contest or acceptance or use of a prize or parts thereof, including without limitation (i) any condition caused by events beyond Clark County’s control that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (ii) any injuries, losses, or damages (compensatory, direct, incidental, consequential or otherwise) of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the Contest; and (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Winners agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and the decisions of the judges are final.

In no event will Clark County be liable to you for any direct, special, incidental, exemplary, punitive or consequential damages (including loss of use, data, business or profits) arising out of or in connection with your participation in the Contest, whether such liability arises from any claim based upon contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and whether or not Clark County has been advised of the possibility of such loss or damage. Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

Additional Conditions

Except where prohibited, by participating in the Contest, entrant consents to the use of his/her name, photo and/or likeness, biographical information, and statements attributed to entrant (if true) for advertising and promotional purposes, including without limitation, inclusion in Clark County’s newsletters, the Contest website at www.saveorganicscraps.com, without additional compensation.

Allow six (6) to eight (8) weeks for delivery of prizes.

Clark County reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest in whole or in part, in the event of fraud, technical or other difficulties or if the integrity of the Contest is compromised, without liability to the entrant. Clark County reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or winner, as determined by Clark County, in its sole discretion. The Contest is subject to these Official Rules and all applicable federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. As stated above, the Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. By participating in this Contest, entrant acknowledges that entrant has read these Official Rules and agrees to abide by them and by the decisions of Clark County, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Contest. These Official Rules are governed by the law of the State of Washington, without reference to rules governing choice of laws. Any action, suit or case arising out of, or in connection with, this Contest or these Official Rules must be brought in either the federal courts located in the Western District of Washington or the state courts located in King County, Washington.

Personal Information

Clark County may collect personal data about entrants online, in accordance with its privacy policy and as may be more specifically set forth in these Official Rules. Please review these Official Rules and the Clark County Privacy Statement at www.saveorganicscraps.com. By participating in the Contest, entrant hereby agrees to collection and use of entrant’s personal information by Clark County and acknowledges that entrant has read and accepted these Official Rules and the Clark County’s Privacy Statement.
